  • content creation
  • Young people are 'digital natives'.
  • Older people are 'digital immigrants'.
  • Usage purpose: social/entertainment vs. practical/information.
  • Attitude towards privacy and security.
  • Young people are content creators, older are consumers.
  • Intuitive use vs. methodical use.
The primary difference lies in their upbringing with technology. Young people are 'digital natives'; they grew up with the internet, so their use is often more intuitive and integrated into every aspect of their lives, from socializing and entertainment to learning. They switch between platforms and tasks seamlessly.
Older people, or 'digital immigrants', tend to use the internet more as a tool for specific purposes. They might go online to check emails, read the news, or perform online banking, but it's often a more methodical and less integrated activity. They learned to use it as adults, so it's more of a functional device than an extension of their social world.
There's also a difference in attitude. Younger generations are often more willing to share personal information and are more active in content creation on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Older generations tend to be more cautious about privacy and security, and are more likely to be passive consumers of information rather than active creators.
