Oh yeah, quite a lot, I can say. I guess it's because they improve the community's image and help history come alive helping people see the bigger picture and grasp the achievements of mankind. One more explanation to such a big number of museums I can give is the fact that they attract tourists and, as a result, extra money to the town.
