I guess if kids wanted to make their parents proud, they’d probably try to do well at school without being pushed, because parents feel proud when children actually study and try hard, not just get lucky grades. They’d also probably take responsibility for their mistakes instead of blaming others, like admitting they forgot homework or made a mistake on a project, because parents feel proud when children can own up and learn from what they did. And they might help out at home without being asked, like wash the dishes or tidy their room, which would make parents proud because it shows the child notices others and cares about the family.
