  • yes:
  • I think schools should teach children to get close to nature, because it’s at school that children can learn to:
  • interact with nature in a safe and organised way
  • treat public green spaces with respect
  • see nature as part of everyday life, not something special or distant
  • develop basic habits that later turn into responsible behaviour
  • understand simple cause-and-effect relationships in the environment
  • experience nature even if they don’t get it at home
  • no:
  • I don’t really think schools should be responsible for this because:
  • schools already have too much on their plate
  • this is something parents usually handle better
  • not all schools have proper or safe outdoor spaces
  • teachers aren’t trained for this kind of activity
  • it can take time away from core subjects
Yeah, I do think schools should teach children to get close to nature, because it’s at school that children can learn to interact with nature in a safe and organised way. Not every kid gets that at home. School is also where they can learn to treat public green spaces with respect. Things like not throwing rubbish around or breaking plants actually stick better when it’s part of school life. Another thing is that school helps kids see nature as part of everyday life, not something special or distant. It’s not just forests or national parks… it can be a local park or even the school yard. Over time, kids develop basic habits that later turn into responsible behaviour. And that’s especially important for children who don’t really experience nature at home.
No, I don’t really think schools should be responsible for this, because schools already have too much on their plate. Teachers are under pressure to finish the syllabus as it is. I also think this is something parents usually handle better, since it’s more about everyday habits and values. There’s also a risk that nature can easily turn into another school task, with rules and grades, and that kind of kills the idea. On top of that, not all schools have proper or safe outdoor spaces, especially in big cities. So in many cases, this just isn’t realistic for schools.
